In every session I have, I always strive to capture authentic moments between you and everyone in your family. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I preach this quite often.

As a photographer, I know the moments to grab and the gentle prompts to give clients, however, a lot of those authentic moments happen because you….yes, YOU! When the client comes to their session with a positive and relaxed attitude, true magic happens. I’ll give you an example with this family right here. When I tell you this family brought it. They BROUGHT IT. And the thing is they probably didn’t even know they did.

Bring your Personality to your session

At the beginning of this session Ashley told me that they really just wanted a lot of interaction and that is exactly what they got. They were relaxed and just were simply themselves and look. at. what. we. got. SO MUCH PERSONALITY!!

Look, I know all of you play silly games and sing songs with your kids at home, so just have fun and do that in your session. So there’s the secret….just be YOU!!!

How to prep and what to expect for your shoot:

We will play games, have tickle fights, and tell jokes if we need to. I will even make animal and fart noises(#truth)!! I also come with my phone, so I love to play music to relax and have fun. Music is almost always a winner in terms of bringing out personality.

The best thing to do is come prepared with a couple songs and games that you and your kids typically enjoy. I will do whatever it takes to get the shot!

Having Fun on your Photoshoot is the #1 goal:

Towards the end of your session, if we feel like it, we can let the kids loose! Let those kids, just be kids…and I will keep capturing those moments.

Let me tell you, it is literally the worst feeling for me, and I’m sure for my clients as well, when I have a photo session coming up and I see a news report with a huge rain weather pattern heading our way. I look forward to all of my shoots as much as my clients do, and it is so disappointing to have to discuss rescheduling. I am an eternal optimist, so I am always hoping for the best, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out. This is the downfall of being an on location, natural light photographer.

Rescheduling your photo shoot

With something as unpredictable as weather, I make sure to keep a close watch on it throughout the week of your session. If I see bad weather coming, I will send my clients a note at the beginning of the week just as a head’s up and to keep a look out. I don’t like to say yes or no until, usually, the night before and sometimes even the morning of. It will really depend on the time of the session and how bad the weather is predicted to be.

Typically, anything above 50% chance is bad news. At this point we would talk about rescheduling photo shoots. The tricky days are when they are below 50%, but still 30-40%. As much as you might be stressing out, know that I am as well. If we don’t end up cancelling, not all is lost. Sometimes the best photos come from overcast skies and there is nothing wrong with that!

Cloudy weather photo shoot

If you’re session ends up not getting rescheduled because its not raining, but still cloudy, don’t worry! Magic can still happen! Some of my best images are products of a cloudy day. As much as natural light is a photographer’s dream, there is something to be said about a lightly cloudy day that lends an even lighting situation, with no harsh sunshine, which is ideal for photoshoots.

This is an example of how I can turn a cloudy photoshoot into a sunny feel. Bottomline, don’t sweat the cloudy days!

Clear & sunny skies

If the weather report is clear for your session, phew! You can breath a sigh of relief. Just know that when the weather is clear, timing is everything. The absolute best time to shoot, in my opinion, is within the first hour to hour and a half after sunrise or about 2-3 hours before sunset.

Bottom line, whatever the weather report shows, I’ve got you! I am absolutely always looking out for your best interest, and your images, when deciding whether to keep the shoot as scheduled or cancel and find another day that works for both of us.

What a beauty! You really know you are an adult when you watch someone graduate from high school that you have watched grow up since they were a baby!

There’s something special about this girl and it’s more than the fact that I have known her since she was born. Her future is ahead of her and I know she will do amazing things! She leaves for LSU in only a few short weeks and I just can’t believe it!

This was a first for me and basically I am hooked! I was asked to photograph a proposal and I am seriously so glad I did. I left the session totally inspired and in awe. It gave me an unbelievable amount of joy to have given this sweet couple their precious moment frozen in time.

We know those first few weeks with a newborn are somewhat of a blur. Full of confusing feeding schedules and very little sleep. This is why for newborn sessions we always travel to your house. I love capturing you and your new little family in your element and where you are the most comfortable. After all, we know leaving the house is the last thing you want to do at that time.

This sweet family welcomed me into their home to photograph their first child for their newborn session. Baby Annie was so sweet and slept so soundly for me to capture the greatly sought after detail shots of those tiny little hands, toes and ears.

I love doing shoots at these all-white, natural light portrait studios! They offer such a great clean backdrop that really allows the client be the focus. However, a dilemma came up when we were planning this one year old shoot, when my client wanted to do a cake smash. Most of these studios do not allow cake smashes on their nice clean white surfaces(understandably, cake smashes can be a pretty messy). Our alternative solution for this adorable little one? A flower smash, of course!

Needless, to say, it made for a precious display of absolute girly-ness, curiosity, wonder and exploration for little Sloane, as she was experiencing flowers for the first time.
